Monitoring bot
Hello from the Centoculus bot
You found “centoculus.com/bot” in your server logs? That was us. Centoculus watches websites, servers and services on behalf of their owners and raises the alarm when something breaks.
What our bot does
A Centoculus customer has asked us to watch this address. Our bot opens exactly that one URL (the start page, a health check or an API endpoint), checks the answer and leaves again. It looks at the status code, the response time, a word that should be on the page and the SSL certificate.
What it never does
- It does not follow links and does not crawl your site.
- It does not index or publish your content.
- It does not fill in forms, log in or try to break anything.
- No load tests: one request per check.
How often and from where
Depending on the plan, every 15 seconds up to every 5 minutes, from our check locations in Europe, North America and Asia. On paid plans a failed check is confirmed from another location before anyone is alerted, so a short network hiccup does not wake anybody.
How to recognize it
The user agent contains “centoculus.com/bot”. The requests come from our check locations in data centers, never from home connections.

Why it ignores robots.txt
Our bot is not a search engine crawler. Someone who runs or looks after this site set up the check on purpose, just like a visitor typing in the address, so robots.txt does not apply.
Not your check?
If you run this site and nobody asked for monitoring, write to us with the address and roughly when you saw our bot. We find the account, stop the check and let them know.
